Hartlepool United are set for another FA Cup conquest as they aim to beat the odds when they are set to host Stoke City next month.

Keith Curle’s men were drawn out the hat first to see them face Championship opposition for the second season in a row in the third round.

The club enjoyed an excellent FA Cup run last season under ex-manager and player Graeme Lee with Pools beating Lincoln City of League One, Championship side Blackpool in this round back in January before a valiant display at Premier League club Crystal Palace which saw them bow out of the cup.

Looking at this list, Pools have form when it comes to causing cup shocks and aim to upset the odds once again this year, especially with their being previous history in this competition against The Potters.

Following Hartlepool United’s FA Cup draw on Monday, let’s look at Pools’ mightiest conquests in the world’s most famous and oldest cup competition…

2022: Hartlepool United 2 – 1 Blackpool

Starting off this list is last season’s FA Cup third round game where Pools hosted Championship visitors Blackpool at the Suit Direct Stadium.

Pools were 1-0 down after 10 minutes after Keshi Anderson put the visitors ahead. David Ferguson scored against his former club moments after half-time before 18- year-old Joel Grey sealed Pools’ fourth round FA Cup place with the winning goal against the Tangerines.

1991: Darlington 1 – 2 Hartlepool United

Who doesn’t love a 2-1 away win against your neighbours, especially in the FA Cup! Pools were well beaten by The Quakers a few weeks prior after suffering a 4-0 defeat back in November 1991.

However, Pools got the last laugh after they knocked out their local rivals at Feethams in the December to progress to the third round of the competition.

1957: Manchester United 4 – 3 Hartlepool United

Although the only defeat in this list, Hartlepool put in a battling performance at Victoria Park against one of England’s greatest ever clubs Manchester United.

In 1957, Pools faced the great Busby babes in what was a thrilling contest in front of over 17,000 people.

The game was mentioned in Matt Busby’s biography as being one of the most exciting matches he had ever witnessed as first division side Man United were given a tough test against Third Division North side Hartlepool United.

1993: Hartlepool United 1 – 0 Crystal Palace

An Andy Saville’s penalty gave Hartlepool United of the third tier of English football a victory over Premier League side Crystal Palace at an icy Victora Park.

Fifteen years after a 2-1 third round win, this was the first time in Pools’ history they had ever knocked out Premier League opposition in FA Cup third in front of a crowd of just under 7,000 people.

2009: Hartlepool United 2 – 0 Stoke City

Against Pools’ next FA Cup opponents, another upset against Premier League opposition saw Pools head into the fourth round over Tony Pulis’s topflight newcomers.

Goals from Micky Nelson and David Foley secured a deserved FA Cup third round win in front of a crowd of 5,367 seen Pools go through to the fourth round.
